About

What is They Can’t Stop Me.org all about?

It’s the motto that Jerry Barsha lived his life by. It’s about inspiring others to live life fully through all of its ups and downs with a determination to be victorious.

Jerry Barsha suffered from innumerable health problems but the word “suffer” was not in his vocabulary. If you knew him you would never know he had any health issues. He lived each day with a smile on his face and the intrigue of life in his heart.

As he faced each new challenge his indomitable spirit just grew stronger. Each time a health problem arose, he would look at us after each operation, raise up his two fingers in a victory salute, smile and say, “THEY CAN’T STOP ME!”   Dad’s fighting spirit not only inspired all of us while he was alive, but continues to inspire us after his passing.

We at They Can’t Stop Me.org want to help others gain a glimpse into this way to living. In conjunction with the Jerry Barsha Memorial Foundation we create events that challenge you to make a difference in your community and by doing so enrich your own “They Can’t Stop Me!” spirit.

Some of you may know the name JERRY BARSHA from the 30 years he was the anchorman on the news at WSYR/WSTM. Some of you may have known JERRY BARSHA as the inspiring teacher of Television/Radio Broadcasting at Onondaga Community College for 32 years. But to us, JERRY BARSHA was our Dad… an unpretentious, loving, supportive, and devoted husband and father.

That is why we have set up the JERRY BARSHA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP at Onondaga Community College. This annual scholarship will be given to a student who wants to pursue a career in Electronic Media Communications. Our father was passionate about news broadcasting and even more passionate about passing down his knowledge and expertise to those who shared this passion. He believed strongly in his community and was a respected figure in Syracuse. This year will be the inaugural year for our annual 5K walk/run toward this scholarship.

If you would like to make a donation to support this scholarship, click here.
