Daughters Start Walk/Run in Memory of Father

Clad in a t-shirt emblazoned with a silhouetted runner holding up two victory fingers, she will join sisters, Amy, Cindy and Janice Barsha, in a walk/run they started this year in memory of their father, Jerry Barsha. Barsha died in September 2009. He was 83. Read more.

The Jerry Barsha Memorial Scholarship Established

Janice and Debra Barsha with Thomas A. Burton, Executive Director, the OCC Foundation

A scholarship to memorialize long-time Electronic Media Communications faculty member Jerry Barsha is the newest addition to the growing list of OCC Foundation scholarships. Jerry inspired hundreds of students over his nearly 35-year teaching career at Onondaga and was a familiar voice and respected figure in Syracuse for more than 30 years. He worked in various areas of radio and television including being a news anchorman at WSYR and WSTM. He was awarded the Syracuse Press Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award and is enshrined on the club’s Wall of Distinction in the John H. Mulroy Civic Center.

This scholarship will provide valuable support for students who choose to pursue a career through the Electronic Media Communications program and will be a lasting reminder of Jerry’s passion to teach and inspire the lives of others.

She was playing taps also for Jerry Barsha, the Syracuse veteran television newsman who had died a day earlier while undergoing treatment at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Read more.
